A Model of Energy Efficiency
In 2013, the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the State of West Virginia, the owners of the First State Capitol sought to demonstrate that a historic landmark could also be a model of energy efficiency, and started on a two-year program of energy efficiency improvements to the building, including, but not limited to, installation of solar panels on the attached garage roof; the replacement of windows with historically accurate, but energy efficient ones; replacement of the roof with a new cool roof; providing a new exterior skin of stucco to the envelope of the building; and the replacement of all interior lighting fixtures with energy efficient lighting. They accomplished this with assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture REAP program, and The National Capital Finance Corporation. For links to our strategic partners, click here.
